The home was not insured because the deed was in a trust that had not yet been put into VanZant's name. VanZant was picking up her son, Adam, from a carnival in Oakhurst when fire ignited in the kitchen of the home on Echo Links of London G Charm Road. While driving home, she saw fire trucks lining the road near her home and received a phone call from a friend saying her house was on fire. The fire was put out, but the following night it re-ignited, leaving nothing behind but a partial shell. VanZant's two dogs -- Sasquatch and Stanley -- were unable to escape. "I still hear them sometimes but I know it's just grief," she said. "You just have to take it Links of London F Charm day at a time, one minute at a time." VanZant is now trying to pick up the pieces but it's not easy. "I'm still finding things and grieving," she said. "It's rough." The home had belonged to her late parents, Donald -- former printer and county planning commissioner -- and Betty Boltinhouse . Betty Boltinhouse will always be remembered for her volunteer work at the Links of London e Charm Methodist Church thrift store and a member of the Grub Gulch Grannies dance team at the Golden Chain Theatre. VanZant feels she not only lost her home, but someone very dear to her heart. "Mom gave me the house and it was an embodiment of her and as long as I had it, I had her." VanZant and her sons are now living in a motor home on the Links of London thanks to Journey Vineyard Church in Oakhurst. "The mountain community is immensely giving and the outpouring is amazing," VanZant said. She said a number of churches have been doing what they can to help out and the Red Cross helped with shelter immediately following the fire.
